As we previously reported, the family of slain rapper Nipsey Hussle was searching for a venue that can cater to the huge crowd expected to attend his memorial service. The family rejected several venues that only had a 2,000 seat capacity.
According to TMZ, the family will hold the service at the home of the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers, the Staples Center. Nipsey's family, along with LAPD officials and Staples Center personnel met on Wednesday (Apr. 3), to book the 21,000 seat venue and plan the security and logistics for the service. The service is expected to take place on Thursday, April 11, and will be a ticketed event.
TMZ claims the tickets will be sold through a website created by the family. In 2009, Michael Jackson's funeral was also held in the Staples Center.
Hussle was gunned down outside of his Marathon Clothing store in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles on March 31. A few days after the murder, police arrested the alleged shooter, 29-year-old Eric Holder, and charged him with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Holder entered a not guilty plea on Thursday afternoon via his attorney Chris Darden, the former prosecutor-turned-criminal lawyer best known for being the prosecutor in the O.J. Simpson murder trial.
Holder's bail was set at $5 million and he will appear back in court on May 10.
